The surface field calculator is based on the Biot-Savart law and is applicable for calculating surface field values of uncoated, unchamfered sintered neodymium iron boron (NdFeB) magnets and sintered samarium cobalt (SmCo) magnets at or above the center of the magnetization face.
The calculated results are for reference purposes only.
Surface field values decrease as the air gap increases. Therefore, the encapsulation method of the Gauss meter Hall element and other overlooked air gaps can significantly impact the accuracy of surface field measurements. It is recommended to set the air gap size in the surface field calculator within the range of 0.3-0.5mm.
Even when measuring at the geometric center, the repeatability of surface field measurements may still vary. It must be emphasized that, unlike flux or magnetic moment, surface field does not comprehensively represent the overall performance of a magnet.
